About 100 people have reportedly died with more than 50 seriously injured after a fuel-ladened tanker crashed in Majiya village of Taura local government area of Jigawa state at about 12.30am on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
It was gathered that the villagers scooping fuel from the fallen tanker when the explosion occurred.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, stated: “Today (Wednesday) a petrol tanker from Port Harcourt going to Nguru in Yobe state reached Majiya village of Taura local government area at around 12:30am, the driver lost control at Majiya and falls down.
The content in the tanker flooded gutters and drainages in the village. The villagers started fetching the fuel when the petrol tanker burst into flame. As a result, 100 people have been confirmed died and 50 have been hospitalised and receiving treatment”.
