Following his appointment as the 13th Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, made known his first priority as a VC designate.
Adebowale is expected to officially assume office in Friday December 31, 2021.
Saying that the job has started, Adebowale noted, “And the hard job has just begun in earnest. The job of upholding and strengthening our heritage”.Calling for forgiveness and fence mending, he said, “All the many strained nevres must be calmed; all fractured relationships must be rebuilt. And I have begun and shall lead that process. We are sisters and brothers, irrevocably united to our vision for a global first-rate University. Join me and hold me by my word”.
The University administrator, who was grateful to every stakeholder in the UI project acknowledged the crisis the appointing of the 13th VC caused in the nation’s Premier University.
He pointed out, “In the wisdom of Council of the University of Ibadan, I have just been made the 13th Vice Chancellor of Nigeria’s oldest academic heritage, the University of Ibadan. The long-drawn process lasted 17 months. With bated breath, you have all waited, spoken, counselled and supported in many countless ways. From all over the world, from known and unknown well-wishers, I have received much more favour and support than one would have expected. But it was not I alone that you supported; rather it was the University of Ibadan-our heritage-that you supported”.
