Two candidates, Comrade Jadesola Ajibola of JAMZ FM and Comrade Omolola Alamu of Federal Radio Corporation Of Nigeria, Ibadan Station have emerged as Chairpersons of the Oyo State Chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), in two parallel elections held in Ibadan, capital of the state.
Confusion hit members of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State, as news broke that the two factions in NAWOJ have conducted two different elections, which produce two different executive members for women journalists in the state.
While Alamu’s faction berated the national NAWOJ officers for not attending the election at Press Centre, Iyaganku, it was gathered that the national officers conducted the election that produced Ajibola.
It was further gathered that Certificate of Returns were presented to Ajibola and her newly elected executive members by the national Vice President of NAWOJ, Comrade Omobola Akingbehin.
Speaking on behalf of Comrade Ladi Bala, the National Financial secretary of NAWOJ, Comrade Adeola Adekunle said the national body having concluded all the screening processes returned Jadesola Ajibola, Seyi Bamidele, Stella Oyebanji and Peju Oyelakin as Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
She urged the new executive members to bring all members together, serve diligently and promote peace among members.
Akingbehin advised all the members to work together to move the association forward and promote the pen profession in Oyo state and Nigeria.
Others who were elected alongside Alamu were: Comrade Shade Oduola-Vice chairperson, Comrade Ramat Alade- Secretary, Comrade Temilola Akarah- Treasurer, Comrade Kehinde Igbari- Assistant Secretary and Comrade Temilola Oyewole- Financial Secretary.
In their separate speeches, the two chairpersons vowed to take the welfare of members seriously.
Alamu urged members to be up and doing in the association, promising to lift the association to an enviable heights.
She stressed that the welfare of members would be given utmost priority, saying it was one of the major plans of her team.
Alamu implored Nawojians in the state to give maximum support to her team so as to achieve remarkable success.
She emphasised that with the new team, every member would be involved.
In her own speech, Ajibola assured all members that the second term would be better and welfare of members would be topmost on the agenda.
She noted that NAWOJ is one family and as sisters, the Patriotic agenda would be actualised.
