Two persons are feared dead and more than fourteen so far rescued alive in an ongoing operation at a collapse building site under construction along Musa Yar’adua drive in Owerri, capital of Imo state.
The eight storey building, which is believed to be a hotel, suddenly caved-in leaving many workers at the site trapped.
It is not clear how many people were trapped but two excavators deployed to the scene are removing rubbles to rescue more people believed to be held back.
Security personnel fire fighters and officials of the Red Cross Society were on ground to assist in rescue operations.
Deputy chief of staff to Governor Hope Uzodimma Mr. Emeka Agbo who led some government officials to the scene told newsmen that more than twenty persons are believed to be trapped in the rubbles.
The cause of the collapse is not yet clear but some experts believe it could be as a result of structural defect.
