No fewer than 20 medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, have been kidnapped by gunmen in Benue State. The students, who were en route to the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) in Enugu, were ambushed by the armed men.
The incident occurred in the Otukpo area of Benue State around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
The students, who are from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were traveling together to attend the FECAMDS convention when they were forcibly taken by the gunmen.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with spokesperson SP Catherine Anene stating that an investigation has been launched into the abduction.
The kidnapping has sparked widespread concern and fear, as it adds to the growing number of abductions in the region.
The families of the kidnapped students are anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones, while security agencies are reportedly working to secure their release.
