The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 has ranked three universities in South Africa topmost in Africa.
While the University of Cape Town was ranked 136, University of the Witwatersrand was ranked 194 and Stellenbosch University was among the ranks of 250-300.
Nigerian private University, Covenant University, Ota, University of KwaZulu-Natal, a South African University, Aswan University, Egypt and Mansoura University, Egypt were ranked among the 401 and 500 best universities in the world.
In the third category are University of Ibadan (UI) and North-West University, South Africa ranked among the 501 and 600 best universities in the world.
In the category of 601 and 800 are University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria, University of the Western Cape, all in South Africa, Cairo university and Kafrelsheikh University in Egypt and Makerere University, Uganda.
In the category of 801 to 1000 are: Ain Shams University, American University in Cairo, Benha University, Tanta University, (all in Egypt), University of Ghana, University of Lagos, Nigeria, University of Nairobi, Kenya and Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa.
However, the first 10 best universities are all in United Kingdom and United States of America. They are: University of Oxford, UK, California Institute of Technology, USA, University of Cambridge, UK, Stanford University, US, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US, Princeton University, US, Harvard University, US, Yale University, US, University of Chicago and Imperial College London, UK.
