There are controversies over the dethronement of the former Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as two schools of thoughts have emerged over the development.
While the first school of thought, basically from the North see no secondary meaning to the scenario, the other see it as a permutation to make Sanusi succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, thereby extending the reign of the North beyond 2023.
The second school of thought from the South feels that the North has determined to ensure that power stays with the North if possible indefinitely and Sanusi is the one pencilled down for the realisation of this dream.
According to the school of thought, Sanusi is not expected to play partisan politics or contest for any office as an Emir, hence they put up a drama that led to his deposition and come 2023, he would be fielded as presidential candidate, whom they will all work for and ensure that he emerged as the next president.
They argued that Sanusi as an Emir cannot be president, hence Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State was asked to sack him, adding that the sack will elicit sympathy from the Southerners, who will consider a presidential slot as a compensation for being disgraced out of the throne.
It is argued that Sanusi’s handlers are already scheming to enlist him in APC, the platform he will use to contest and they have also started selling him to those that matter in politics in all the geo-political zones.
They said, “The North pitches him against Jagaban as Presidential Candidate. Buhari favours him as against Jagaban. Sanusi contests as President and the North will vote for him enmasse. Then Ganduje will tender apology, which will be accepted by Sanusi, who will in turn make him a minister”, this school of thought pointed out.
They reasoned that the North would do everything possible to frustrate the presidential ambition of the former Governor of Lagos State and current leader of All Progressive Party, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Some have argued that it is a political permutation of the North to ask Tinubu to be the running mate of Sanusi in a Muslim Muslim ticket.
According to information obtained on social media from Yoruba Colloquium, titled, “Sanusi’s Dethronement: Step By Step Northern Agenda Against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition”, everything is just a game plan.
It read, “Do not be deceived, the 2023 game has started. He is the chosen one for the 2023 presidency and they want to make it look like he is being persecuted for speaking against the North and supporting the South so that he will get Southern support when the time comes. Believe me all of them are involved in the plan. The North is wise and good in politics. They know what they are doing”.
