The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode Adebowale, said on Friday, November 15, 2024, that 2,450 graduating students would be awarded academic Master’s Degrees in various fields of study at the school’s ongoing 2024 convocation ceremony.
Speaking at the congregation for the award of postgraduate Diplomas and admission to Master’s Degree of the nation’s Premier University, Adebowale said, “A further breakdown of 2,450 Academic Master Degrees to be awarded shows that 253 are candidates from the Faculties of Arts, 424 from Science; 95 from Basic Medical Sciences; 48 from Clinical Sciences; 214 from Public Health; 1 from Institute of Child Health; 33 from the Institute of African Studies; 12 from the University of Ibadan School of Business and 7 from Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.”
He stated that yesterday, 1,982 graduates received their higher degrees from six faculties: Arts, Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Public Health, and Law.
He explained, “This figure comprises 12 candidates for M.Phil, 1,887 Academic Master’s Degree candidates, 37 Professional Master’s Degree candidates, and 46 candidates for Postgraduate Diplomas.”
The VC reiterated that the vision of the University is anchored on the pursuit of the national goals of development through knowledge creation and dissemination, to promote national transformation.
“The realisation of this vision is reflected in our commitment to the continuous development of teaching, learning and research programmes that would provide the required skills for internalizing the development process and to serve as a catalyst for the political, social and economic development of the nation”, he added.
The Master’s convocation continues today.
