In a colourful ceremony, America’s 46th President, Joe Biden, his Vice, Kalama Harris were on Wednesday January 20, 2021, inaugurated at the historic Capitol Building.
While Chief Justice of the United States, John Roberts administered the oath of office for Joe Biden, Supreme Court Judge, Sonia Sotomayor swore in the first female American Vice President, Kamala Harris.
At the event, speeches were delivered, and was lightened up with poetry rendition and musical performances.
Speaking, Biden reiterated his passion against systemic racism saying that there are cries for racial justice, survival, eradication of white supremacy and terrorism act of whatever form, adding that America is for all not for just one person.
He appealed to Americans to join him to fight the ills of the society and the things that divide Americans saying that it is in unity that war against coronavirus, dehumanisation, racial discrimination, can be won.
He stressed, “We can see each other as neighbours and treat ourselves with dignity. We need each other in the work ahead “
Reminding the people that America live by democracy he pointed out that democracy is precious and fragile and it must be jealously guided.
He said that his administration has much to do and much to repair.
In attendance were past presidents of America including George W. Bush and his wife, Barrack Obama and his wife, Bill Clinton, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her entourage, Rev Father Leo Jeremiah O. Donovan, who offered opening prayer, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, professionally known as Lady Gaga, an actress and singer, who rendered the American National Anthem and family members of both Biden and Harris.
The outgone President, Donald Trump, was conspicuously absent at the ceremony.
