About 500 persons benefitted from the second edition of the annual Lt Col. (Dr) Tolu Aduroja memorial medical outreach held between Friday, 24 and Sunday, 25 November 2023, at Naomi Medical Centre located at Oke Padre Area of Ibadan, capital of Oyo State.
The free medical outreach, which attended to medical, surgical and gynaecological issues, was in commemoration of late Lt Col. Dr Tolulope Akintunde Aduroja, who died on November 28, 2020, at 53, in his sleep, at Yokota Air Base, Japan, while on a US Military Mission.
Behind the project is the deceased’s widow, Dr Dele Aduroja, and the deceased’s younger brother, Dr Abiola Aduroja, the Medical Director of Naomi Medical Centre.
Among the medical doctors who gave their free service at the outreach are Dr Tayo Kehinde from the University College Hospital (UCH), Dr Tunji Oloyede of the OYSHMB, Dr Tolu Omodunbi from Oluyoro, Dr Bolaji Ajaigbe, Dr Tony Oguta from LUTH and Dr Bolaji Ajaigbe, and Abiola Aduroja, both from NAOMI. Also, the programme had over 30 nurses, some pharmacists and other paramedical personnel.
During the outreach, over 16 surgeries were carried out on patients with fibroid, Hernia, Appendicitis, ovarian masses, and hysterectomies, among others.
In a chat, Dr Ajeigbe revealed that hypertension was the leading case that was attended to, followed by malaria.
The deceased’s widow and younger brother noted that they would ensure that the programme continues, as they pointed out that it is the only way to keep the memory of late Lt Col Aduroja.
Besides, the widow pointed out that giving back to society is a passion for the deceased, hence, all efforts would be made to source for funds for the annual implementation of the project.
Speaking on the financing of the outreach, the duo noted that the programme is currently being financed with the trust fund established for the project after the late Lt Col died.
She said, “myself and Abiola have decided to to continue with the project from our purse if the trust fund dries up”, stressing, “If we have to do it alone, we will do it. As long as God provides, we will continue with the programme annually”.
