A Nigerian veteran actress, who relocated to Canada eight years ago, Lola Alao has revealed why she quit her caregiver’s job for a boutique and lounge business.
Lola, who was trained for a year in a caregiver’s school said that she had to quit the caregiver’s home she was working with when an elderly woman of 91 years old she had bathed and dressed for called her and gave her a dirty slap.
Narrating her experience with Kunle Afod, Lola said, “I went to caregiver’s school for a year. After that, I got a job taking care of those that need care. There is this particular old woman, a 91-year-old woman. I bathed for her. She suddenly called me and asked me to help her check her earrings. As I was about to check it, she gave a deafening slap. Immediately the slap landed on me, I couldn’t see and tears rolled down my cheeks. The nurses on duty heard the slap and rushed inside asking what happened. I stopped the work immediately.”
Consequent upon her experience, the actress is working on a movie titled, “The Caregiver”.
The actress said that she opened a boutique and L. A Lounge in two different places in Canada afterwards, pointing out, “Later Nigerians came and opened shops and did the same thing with me. I hate competition so, I sold my shops and started selling clothes at home.”
“Right now, I want to reopen L. A. Lounge for selling clothes. My younger ones will soon join me here. They will assist me in the shop”, she added.
She noted that truck drivers and construction workers are in high demand in Canada stressing, “I beg men that want to come to Canada to go and learn truck driving or any aspect of construction work. Women can also learn tailoring and hairdressing. They are lucrative and in high demand.”
