The Management of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), has declared that three foremost monarchs in Nigeria: Oni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari, and and Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno would be conferred honourary doctorate degrees at 9th Convocation ceremony holding on Saturday November 20, 2021.
Revealing this today at a pre-convocation press conference to herald the 12th anniversary of its establishment and 9th convocation ceremonies in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof (Mrs) Smaranda Olarinde said that both Oba Ogunwusi and Adejugbe would be awarded the Doctor of Letters (Honoris causa), Emir Gambari and Governor Zulum would be decorated with Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Letters (LLD) respectively.
She stated that the honours to the governor and the monarch was based on their “proven integrity, character and exceptional contributions to the development of the society”.
Speaking on the graduation, Olarinde revealed that a total of 125 graduates would bag First Class degrees out of 1,306 that would receive the bachelor’s degrees, while 109 would be decorated with Postgraduate Degrees in various academic fields making an aggregate of 1,415.
The Vice Chancellor gave the breakdown of the first class graduates, pointing out that the College of Engineering led the list with 42 first class students, while Law, Medical and Health Sciences, Sciences and Social and Management Sciences recorded 18, 17, 14 and 34 respectively.
