The Governing Council of Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), has appointed Professor Christopher Bankole Ndubisi Ogbogbo, as its new Vice-Chancellor.
According to a press statement dated Friday, February 28, 2025, and signed by the institution’s Registrar and Secretary to Council, Commodore Isaac M Mankilik, the decision was made during an extraordinary council meeting held on February 28, 2025.
Professor Ogbogbo emerged as the preferred candidate after a rigorous selection process, securing nine out of 15 votes from the council members.
The statement revealed that Ogbogbo was chosen from a shortlist of three highly qualified contenders.
A distinguished scholar and administrator, Professor Ogbogbo holds multiple degrees, including a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in History from the University of Ibadan, as well as LLB and LLM degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
He also obtained a professional law qualification from the Nigerian Law School in Abuja.
Currently, a Professor of History at the University of Ibadan, he has held several key positions, including serving as the Immediate Past National President of the Historical Society of Nigeria and Vice-President of the Association of African Historians.
He is a fellow of numerous prestigious organisations, including the Philosophers Association of Nigeria, the Society for Peace Studies & Practice, and the Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy.
He is also a senior member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
With a career spanning 36 years, Professor Ogbogbo has supervised 15 doctoral theses and approximately 120 Master’s dissertations.
His academic engagements have taken him to institutions such as Northwestern University in the U.S., St. Augustine University of Tanzania, and Zehijang Normal University in China.
Additionally, he has served as a consultant to the University of Gambia and held a Visiting Professorship at Kennesaw State University in the U.S.
Beyond academia, Professor Ogbogbo has worked with international organisations, including ECOWAS, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the American Council for Learned Societies.
He has authored over 90 scholarly publications and received research grants from esteemed institutions such as the MacArthur Foundation and the Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA).
Born in Lagos to parents from Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State, Professor Ogbogbo is passionate about fostering a deeper understanding of history among Nigerians.
His appointment is expected to bring significant academic and administrative advancements to Admiralty University.
The ADUN Governing Council expressed confidence that his leadership would drive the university to greater heights, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence.
