The University of Ibadan has received a generous donation of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) from the North America Branch of Afenifere, a prominent Yoruba socio-cultural group, to support academic excellence in the Department of History.
The donation will be utilized to establish a perpetual prize for the Best Final Year History Project in Yoruba History, alongside an annual scholarship programme. According to the University’s management, the donation will fund two recipients over a period of two years, with each recipient receiving One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) annually.
Afenifere North America has specified that the scholarships be awarded to two outstanding students in 2025 and 2026. The initiative is expected to bolster research and scholarship in Yoruba history, encouraging academic rigor and deeper exploration of the rich heritage of the Yoruba people.
