Popular Afrobeats artist Asake is in the spotlight following reports that his father, Fatai Odunsi, also known as Malo, has been left partially paralyzed after suffering a stroke.
Facing financial difficulties in covering his medical expenses, Odunsi recently turned to social media to appeal for assistance from Nigerians, seeking help with his hospital bills.
He said, “I am the father of Hamed Asake. I am the father Babatunde Ololade, Mr Money popularly known as Asake, the singer. I have stroke. It started in March 29, 2022. I have not seen him since then till this moment that I am talking to you. Please, I need your help.”
However, people have started reacting to Asake’s father’s publicly seeking for financial help, as many people are appealing to Asake to assist his father.
Candyman said, “Asake’s dad situation reminds me of mine. My dad abandoned me/us too, but when he needs help, I do my part. I don’t know the battles he fought as a man, and it’s not my place to judge. The least I can do, I do. I have no interest in revenge.”
Joshual Olusegun stated, “There’s a reason Asake took his mother’s name and used it as his stage name while his father is rotting away somewhere…. The man probably had no role to play in his life and now wants to come in the glory days. It’s Asake’s choice though…”
Also, the Unusualphyna explained, “Seeing this Asake’s dad It’s heartbreaking when parents neglect a child for years, only to return later seeking public sympathy as if they were the ones abandoned. The emotional toll on the child is immense they’re forced to process years of neglect while also dealing with public judgment. It’s an unfair situation where the child, who struggled alone, now has to defend themselves against a narrative that paints them as the villain. The embarrassment and mental strain of having to justify their absence when it was never their choice is something no one should have to endure. The lives of Children that their parents were not in their lives matters.”
