I was in Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan (KDL,UI) yesterday. While studying, an elderly man came in with books and took the seat right in front of mine. As he sat, he prayed a few seconds, then started reading.
I stopped reading and began to look at him in awe. At a point, I could no longer hold it, then I spoke out. “Good afternoon, Sir”, he stopped reading and responded. “Would you please permit me to ask you few questions, Sir”, he consented.
He identified himself as Rev. Adeoye. He spoke so politely and with a fair command of English. I asked if he were a teacher or a student. He told me he is a student of UI DLC (Distance Learning center, University of Ibadan), his course of study is Social Works. I was impressed. I went further to ask him more questions, and he told me that he didn’t have the privilege to take his first degree in the days he was younger because of financial constraints.
He said he would forever remain unfulfilled if he didn’t bag a university degree, and that’s the reason for his decision. I was overwhelmed, his determination intrigued me. This should serve as a motivation to you. Yes, you. Yes, exactly, I am talking to you. If this man, as old as he is, pursues is goal. Then, nothing should stop you from pursuing yours. Go after your purpose, don’t be lazy. Shun procrastination. You have financial constraints, seek help, from God and from fellow men. Help will come. The goal is to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
