Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested six suspects allegedly involving in illegal mining in Akwa Ibom State.
According the Mining Marshals’ Commander, ACC Attah John Onoja, in an operation code-named Operation Hayakin Kogo, the suspects were arrested at various mining sites in the state.
The illegal mining operations have resulted in significant revenue loss for the Federal Government, environmental degradation, and serious health risks to local communities.
Onoja issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal mining, urging them to desist or face full weight of the law.
He advised individuals seeking to operate legally to approach the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Mining Cadastre Office for proper regularisation, as the operation would continue to enforce full compliance with mining laws and regulations for the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians.
