Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who confirmed the presence of of terrorist gangs in Oke Ogun Area of the state and other part of the South West has assured the Yoruba that the government of South West is on top of situation.
Makinde further stated that the Federal Government cannot kill Amotekun, a security outfit put in place by all the states government of the South West for the protection of lives and property of the residents of the zone.
The Governor, who revealed this on a television programme said, “Amotekun has come to stay. That is not where we are even going. Where we are going is to have state police that its control will be with the state government”.
He said, “The terrorists in the North are getting heat in the North. And because of that, they have started coming down to the south West passing through Niger and Kwara. Oyo State Government is aware that terrorists are in the state and we know that they are in Oke Ogun Area of the state. We are taking necessary action. We want to use Amotekun to secure the lives and property of our people.”.
“Some of my colleagues politicise Amotekun. They did not come for the launching of Amotekun because their boss said we do not need Amotekun. We want state police. We want to have control over our state police. Security of lives and property is foundational to development. There cannot be investor without security. There is no way I can drive to Maiduguri in Borno today. For us, Amotekun has come to stay and we will not politicise it”, he added.
