The Apostolic Faith Church West and Central Africa (WECA) begins its 2022 Annual Camp Meeting with the theme, “O Lord, Revive Thy Work”, holding from Sunday, August 14-28, 2022.
This year’s Camp Meeting is especially special because there had not been a physical congregation of the camp since 2019 due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The programme features bible teachings, revival service, sacred music, youth activities, seminars, special musical concert and intense prayers.
Speaking on the theme and guided by the Book of Habakkuk Chapter 1, verses 1-5, WECA District Superintendent, Rev. Isaac Adigun proffered a lasting solution to the myriad of problems ravaging Nigeria.
Adigun highlighted the problems to include, economic, political and social crises.
He identified revival as the solution to the challenges Nigeria and other countries are facing.
The DS, who spoke from the background of the current pressing and persistent religious situation, which is not different from the time of Habakkuk, said that Nigeria and the world at large need the mercy of God, saying that the prayer of Habakkuk at the time was that God should look down and show mercy – the prayer should be the prayer of genuine Christians now.
His words, “In His wrath, may He (God) looked down and show mercy. That was the prayer of this prophet having seen everything that was going on around him. We don’t need any new programme. We don’t need any new charter. We don’t need any new government. What we need is revival. He knew so well that if everyone is revived, every other thing will be taken care of. He knew so well if God will extend mercy in His wrath, we will all be at peace. And that was his prayer and that is our prayer in this camp meeting that in the name of Jesus, God should please rain down revival, to pour out great showers in Jesus might name.”
“He knew so well that if the land is revived, the situation they were in will be turned around. It is similar to the situation in our lives and it is similar to the situation of our land. If God will please show mercy and revive us, things will change for the better. That is why what we need is nothing else but revival. Revival of the soul. That Revival is not something you do with hype; it is not something you work it, it is not something you jump up and down. It is by a simple prayer. Oh Lord, revive thy work.”
Adigun recounted the discourse between God and Habakkuk saying, “In chapter 1, there was a discourse between Habakkuk and God. Habakkuk was looking around and asked; what is going on, what is happening, our land is going away just like that, where is God? So, Habakkuk decided to be praying. And as we have seen from our text, we will notice that Habakkuk was complaining to God that there were no answers to prayers. There was violence all around. There was no salvation. There was trouble and lawlessness all around the country, all around the land, wickedness and injustice all around the land, corruption in the land even the international scene around them was full of turmoil. God was using a completely godless nation to punish them.”
“I want us to be thinking of the situation we are, either as individuals, either as a country. Let us be thinking of what makes Habakkuk get to a place where he decided that the only solution to all these is that God should revive His work. If the Lord will revive His work, all these will be revived. And in like manner, in Jesus name, we want the Lord to please, revive His work, so that we can have peace in our soul, in our land and hope for our children”, he added.
The cleric further wondered why God would use a complete godless nation to overpower a godly nation and the children of God.
He pointed out, “I think we could be challenged and say, God, it is not a new charter, a new law, a new regulation, new this and that that we need? We need that same old fire of revival when people will call upon God and God will come down and God will say here l am my child, what do you want me to do? May God do that for us again. We are gathered together here to cry to God, to pray to God, to say to God, enough is enough. You are still in heaven, you are still answering prayers. Habakkuk said how long and you too want to say how long, revive us, send us back to the old time faith, send us back to the old faith and send us back to the faith of our fathers. It worked for them, it must work for us. Whether Satan likes it or not in the mighty name of Jesus, God of our fathers is the one we are going to cry to and He is the one we are going to call upon. What He did in the olden days, we want him to come and do it for us, in the name of Jesus.”
The DS enjoined the congregation to examine themselves to know where they have got it all wrong individually and make amendments to begin to enjoy God anew.
