Armed robbers, whose numbers could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, attacked Crescent University, Abeokuta, Nigeria (CUAB), in the early hours of Friday, March 28, 2025.
Crescent University is an Islamic faith-based institution established by the former judge of the International Court of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN).
PrimeStar News gathered that the robbers targeted the female hostels, where they carted away property worth several millions of naira.
A video clip sent to PrimeStar News from the school shows a room in one of the hostels ransacked, with female students’ underwear scattered and the burglary-proof bars broken, presumably for exit.
Students of the institution expressed displeasure, alleging that the school authorities were attempting to conceal the incident from the public.
To obtain a detailed account of the incident, PrimeStar News contacted a university staff whose phone number was obtained from the school website. Truecaller identified him as Hakin Ogunsola.
Ogunsola, who was hostile over the phone, stated that he had no right to speak to the press, saying, “I can’t speak with the press. We have a Public Relations Officer (PRO). Only the PRO can speak to you.”
Before ending the call, he refused to provide the contact details of the school’s spokesperson.
PrimeStar News, however, managed to obtain the phone number of the school’s PRO, Dr. Idris Katib.
Responding in an unfriendly manner, Dr. Katib denied the incident, stating, “There is no armed robbery incident at Crescent University.”
When asked to explain the video clip circulating about the attack, Dr. Katib abruptly ended the call and became unreachable. He also failed to respond to a text message sent to him.
