Following the non-payment of February salary of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the body has declared a two- week warning strike action with effect from Monday March 9, 2020.
ASUU national President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, ordered the immediate commencement of the strike shortly after the National Executive Council meeting (NEC) held at the University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Enugu State.
According to him, the strike action has become imperative at this material time to compel the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to implement the agreements and resolutions of Memorandum of Action discussed in the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the 2017 Memorandum of Action (MoU), all of which have not been implemented.
There is a strong indication that the body will commence indefinite strike action after the expiration of the warning strike.
Federal Government and ASUU has reached a deadlock over the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), as ASUU has vowed that it would not register under the scheme until it accommodates their peculiarities.
