Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has clarified that his visit to his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday was not politically motivated but merely a courtesy call.
Atiku arrived at Obasanjo’s residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta at exactly 12:37 pm.
He was accompanied by former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke; former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Tambuwal; and Senator Abdul Ningi, among others.
The delegation was received by elder statesman Oyewole Fasawe before proceeding upstairs for a private meeting with Obasanjo. The meeting lasted approximately one and a half hours.
Emerging from the meeting at about 2:17 pm, Atiku addressed journalists and emphasised that the visit was a courtesy call, dismissing any political motives.
“I am here on a courtesy call. I am not here to talk politics,” Atiku said when asked whether the meeting was connected to his speculated 2027 presidential ambition.
Attempts to get Senator Tambuwal to comment on the purpose of the visit were unsuccessful, as he also declined to speak on the matter.
