The Bayelsa State government has directed all primary and secondary schools in the state to immediately proceed on six-week flood break.
The flood break which is compulsory for both private and public schools is expected to protect students from any adverse effects of the flood.
Governor Duoye Diri has also constituted a task force to recognise high grounds that persons affected by the flood can relocate to while all closed water canals in the state is being opened up to reduce the impact of the flood.
As of the time of filing this report, some parts of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital has experienced flooding.
Massive flooding has been experienced in many coastal and non-coastal parts of the country in the last few weeks due to excessive floods and inflow from external places like Cameroon. Over 300 people have been killed by devastating floods across Nigeria in 2022, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
