A tragic incident unfolded on Friday at Olobe Farm, Igbajo, Osun State, when a swarm of bees attacked three farmers, killing one and critically injuring two others.
The deceased, Mr. Abideen Olabiyi, hailed from the Alalade compound in Ada. He succumbed to the bee stings at the scene, while the two survivors—Mr. Solomon Kingsley and Chief Olusegun Alalade, also from the same compound—are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Ada.
According to a police report from the Otan Ayegbaju Division, the three men had gone to the farm when the deadly attack occurred.
The statement read in part:
“On Friday, 18 April 2025, at about 4:45 p.m., one Babasanjo Alalade of Alalade compound, Ada, reported that his relatives—Abideen Olabiyi, Mr. Solomon Kingsley, and Chief Olusegun Alalade—were attacked by a swarm of bees at Olobe Farm, Igbajo. Mr. Olabiyi died at the scene, while the others sustained injuries and managed to escape.”
Police detectives promptly visited the farm, documented the scene with photographs, and transported the deceased to Healthy Paradise Mortuary in Ikirun for autopsy. The surviving victims were rushed to a nearby hospital in Ada for urgent medical attention.
The circumstances surrounding the bee attack remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
