Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has assented to the bills seeking to repeal the Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture, Yandev and College of Advanced and Professional Studies, Makurdi laws to make provisions for their conversion to polytechnics.
Also assented to by Ortom is a bill for the amendment of a law to make provisions for the establishment of the Benue State Health Insurance Agency to commence health insurance scheme for residents of the state.
Performing the ceremony at New Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi the Governor said the conversion of the institutions to polytechnics was part of the agenda of his administration to reposition the education sector to meet the challenges of a new economy.
He noted that the desire of Government was to ensure that the institutions produce graduates with adequate skills to become job creators rather than job seekers thereby helping the state to build a self-reliant economy.
Governor Ortom assured that adequate funds would be released through the committee set up to ensure the smooth take-off the polytechnics for them to get the necessary regulatory approvals and enjoined the host communities to be of good conduct.
