The Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Benue State Chapter, Comrade Victoria Asher, is dead.
According to a statement by the Secretary of the NUJ Benue Council, Moses Akaahan, Asher died at Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi after a caesarian section around 8am on Saturday.
It read: “Asher died 8am on Saturday at the Federal Medical Centre in Makurdi following a cesarean section surgery. She was delivered of a set of twins – a male and a female – before complications arose“.
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has expressed shock over the death of the chairperson.
In a statement, Ortom said the demise of Mrs Asher is a painful loss not only to the media community but also to the entire state.
He described the late NUJ Chairman as a hardworking woman who related well with others and stood for excellence in the pen profession.
Governor Ortom stated that the Government and people of Benue will miss her and her contributions to the state in her chosen profession of journalism.
He prayed God to grant her eternal rest and give her husband, with the entire family as well as colleagues, particularly the Benue State Council of NUJ, the strength to bear the loss.
