Bolanle Otegbayo of the Department of Food Science and Technology Bowen University, Iwo, has been promoted to the rank of Professor at Bowen University.
The new Professor, who is the wife of the Chief Medical Director (CMD), University College Hospital (UCH), Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, is a scholar of international repute.
Announcing the elevation on Twitter, the UCH CMD wrote: “I felicitate my wife, Bolanle, as she is elevated to the rank of a Professor of Food Science and Technology at the Bowen University, Iwo, where she’s been engaged in research and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students”.
Professor Bolanle Otegbayo obtained a B.Sc. in Food Science and Technology from Obafemi Awolowo University. She also holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Food Technology from the University of Ibadan. Her area of specialization is Food Chemistry. She was the Head of Department of Food Science & Technology from 2013-2018. She is the current Director of Research & Strategic Partnerships in the University.
She is a recipient of the distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship of African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD).
She did her Postdoctoral training at CIRAD, Montpelier and INRA, Nantes, France in 2012, where she worked on the physicochemical, functional and molecular characterization of yam starch for potential industrial use.
She is a Fellow of Salzburg Global seminar, Austria, Fellow, African Nutrition Leadership Programme (ANLP) South Africa, and a Certified Food Scientist (CFS) by International Food Science Certification Commission (IFSCC, USA).
Otegbayo is a member of many professional bodies such as Nigeria Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), Institute of Food Technology (IFT, USA), International Union of Food Science & Technologists (IUFOST), Holland Alumni (Netherlands), International Association of Research Scholars and fellows (IARSAF) and Nigeria Women in Agriculture Research and Development (NIWARD).
She has been an AWARD mentor three times and served as a reviewer to many reputable International Journals (Elsevier, Wiley).
