The Borno State High Court, on Friday, August 12, 2022, sentenced Aisha Alkali Wakil, popularly called Mama Boko Haram alongside Tahiru Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyede sentenced to five years terms each for stealing N66million.
Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court found them guilty of a three-count of conspiracy and stealing to the tune of N66m preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Maiduguri Zonal Command.
EFCC accused the convicts to have dishonestly induced Ali Tijjani, the CEO and alter ego of AMTMAT Global Ventures to deliver processed maize grains (biski), valued at N51million to their company, Complete Care and Aid Foundation and they are yet to pay.
According to the prosecutor, the dubious act of the convicts runs foul of Section 320(a) and is punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State.
Delivering her judgment, Justice Kumaliya said the prosecution proved the charge against the defendants and pronounced them guilty as charged.
The Judge sentenced Wakil, Daura and Shoyede to seven years imprisonment for the offence of conspiracy without the option of a fine and seven years on the count of cheating also without the option of a fine.
On the second count of cheating, the court sentenced the convicts to seven years imprisonment each without an option of a fine.
In addition, the court ordered the defendants to pay the sum of N51m to Ali Tijjani or in default serve fifteen years imprisonment.
In addition, the first, second and third defendants are to each pay the sum of N3, 750,000m to Ali Tijjani or in default serve five years imprisonment each.
The judge said, “The sentence is to start running at the expiration of any sentence that this court or any other court had awarded the convicted persons before this judgment.”
