Following the appointment of a Nigerian man of an Igbo extraction, Kaycee Madu, as the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General for the Government of Alberta, in Canada, President Muhammadu Buhari has rejoiced and congratulated him over the appointment, saying the new Canadian Minister had made Nigeria proud.
Buhari, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Madu has made history as the first African born provincial Minister in Canadian history, and is also the Provincial Secretary and Keeper of the Great Seal of the Province of Alberta.
He describes the honour as “landmark and historic,” saying it once again pedestals people of Nigerian descent as go-getters, who distinguish themselves in different walks of life.
The President says as the first Black Justice Minister and Solicitor-General in Canada, Madu has written himself into history books, and urges Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to remain good Ambassadors of their country.
In a similar development, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a congratulatory message, expressed delight that Madu had proved his mettle which earned him the exalted position, adding, “We are so happy for Mr Madu on his well-deserved appointment. This confirms our saying that our Diasporans are our greatest asset making us proud globally”.
According to the statement signed by NIDCOM Head of Media and Public Relations, Dabiri-Erewa advised Madu to continue to give his best in the administration of justice, urging others to emulate such an excellent behaviour.
The NIDCOM boss said the appointment of Madu as Minister of Justice was a reward of consistent hard work, dedication and determination to succeed in his chosen career irrespective of the fact that he was in the foreign land.
She prayed for his success in the new global assignment and canvassed for support and cooperation from all stakeholders to make him successful in his assignment.
In this role, Minister Madu, as Minister of Justice will also be the Provincial Secretary and Keeper of the Great Seal of the Province of Alberta.
“In 2019, Madu made history by becoming the first African-born provincial Minister in Canadian history. In 2020, he makes history again as the first Black Justice Minister and Solicitor General in Canada. We are proud of Madu and wish him success in his new role”, Dabiri added
Reacting the new Minister in his twitter page said, said, “Thank you, everyone, for all the well wishes. I am beyond humbled to accept my new role as Minister of Justice and Solicitor General – where I will pursue fairness, equality, and justice for all with every ounce of strength I have”.
