President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday January 15, 2021, approved the establishment of Federal Polytechnic Wannune, Benue, in Benue State.
This was revealed by Bashir Ahmad, the Special Assistant to President Buhari on New Media.
According to him, President Buhari has also approved a take-off grant of N2billion for the Polytechnic from the funding resources of the TETFund for the provision of core facilities for immediate take-off.
However, Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn the establishment of the polytechnic.
Emah Obara said, “We have higher institutions we cannot funds them yet, we keep building more with the resource’s that was supposed to be use for the existing ones. A country does not progress with this primordial idea”.
Abiola Mykey said, “Sometimes I reason why create polytechnic when their results are perceive less inferior to those with BSc. The society as painted poly students less brilliant and intelligent students Most times difficult for them to compete for jobs with a BSc holder”.
Samuel Lawrence said, “Nigeria presently have about 150 universities (private and public) spread across the country. Ogun state alone has 14. Many of this universities are underfunded and could not provide any meaningful breakthrough research to solve many of our challenges. I think we need to take another look into establishing more institutions as by now, we should know it is not by the quantity of institutions that we have but the quality”.
