President Muhammadu Buhari, Ben Murray-Bruce, Businessman and Senator, who represented Bayelsa East in the Red Chamber between 2015-2019, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), First Veritas Educational Content Delivery Ltd, Gbenro Adegbola have expressed sadness over the death of the former Ambassador of United States of America (USA) in Nigeria and Senegal, Walter C. Carrington.
The trio described the deceased as a great man, whose love for Nigeria and Nigerians cannot be in doubt.
Describing the late diplomat as Nigeria’s ‘Long Time Friend’ who was courageous, Buhari stated, “the late Carrington openly supported the people of this country when they fought for the return of democracy following the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential elections won by the late Moshood Abiola”.
According to him, the story of the Nigerian democracy under the Fourth Republic would not be completed without a mention of the heroic roles of the likes of Ambassador Carrington.
He commiserated with the family of the deceased, his friends and admirers as well as the government and people of the United States.
Also, Murray-Bruce, “The death of Amb Walter Carrington saddens me. A phenomenal man he was and one with whom I shared a lot of great moments through life. My prayer goes out to his dear wife, Arese, and his loved ones. May his soul rest in peace”.
