In a bid to reduce the shortage of food and other necessary items as a result of the sanctions slammed on the Republic of Niger by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), following a military coup that halted a democratic rule in the country, the government of Burkina Faso has sent 300 trucks carrying goods to Niger.
Burkina Faso, a member of ECOWAS that is currently under a military regime has also warned that any armed intervention on Niger would be considered as a declaration of war on them as well.
However, Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani, the commander of Niger’s presidential guards unit, who was appointed head of state on 28 July by a governing council set up by military forces proposed a return to democracy within three years.
