There seems to be a lot to be worried about regarding Coronavirus in Oyo State, as the cases have steadily and consistently risen to 1,055, with new cases of 67 reported yesterday for the state by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
NCDC reported that currently 755 patients of the virus are on admission at isolation centres in the state.
The number of deaths recorded is nine while 291 patients have been treated and discharged.
The rate at which the virus is multiplying at the community level is overwhelming, as numbers of confirmed cases in the state continue to rise daily.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the state, Engr. Seyi Makinde has directed the state civil servants to resume work with effect from Monday June 22, 2020, directing students in critical classes to resume on Monday July 6, 2020.
According to a statement by the Spokesperson to the governor, Taiwo Adisa, “Teachers are to resume to the schools on Monday June 29, 2020, while students in critical classes including Primary 6, JSS3 and SS3 will resume a week later on July 6, 2020”.
Regarding resumption of other students, the state government will take a decisive decision on July 15, 2020.
However, the federal government has kicked against the reopening of schools in the state amidst COVID-19 pandemic, describing the directive of the state government for school to reopen as insensitive to the health of the people.
Minister of State for Education, Emeka Uwajiuba, however, appealed to parents in Oyo State to keep their children and wards away from schools pending the time that it will be safe to reopen schools.
