A foremost Nigerian veterinarian, Sir Dr Olatunde Aiyedun Agbato has died on Thursday January 7, 2021 at the age of 70.
He was until his death the president and Chief Executive Officer of Animal Care Services Konsult, and a Knight of John Wesley, Methodist Church Nigeria.
Born on August 4, 1950, Agbato was a veterinarian with degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Ibadan, and he also held a Master of Business Administration of the University of Lagos.
He worked briefly as a Lecturer with the Department of Veterinary Medicine University of Ibadan between 1976 – 1977 before starting Animal Care Services Konsult (Nig) Ltd with his wife in 1981 and remained the President and Chief Executive of the Company which is now one of the biggest organisations in the livestock sector of the Nigerian economy with interests in Commercial feedmilling, Vitamins & Minerals production, poultry farming, production and procurement of veterinary medicaments and vaccines.
Dr. Olatunde Agbato was past Chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, Ogun Chapter and it was during his tenure that the Nigeria Poultry Show – Abeokuta, the only international Poultry Exposition in Nigeria was started.
He was a fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons in Nigeria, the first recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, and also a recipient of the Distinguished Veterinarian Award of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association. He led his organisation to win the Farmer of the year award of the Central Bank of Nigeria twice in 1987 and 1989 at the state level and once in 1992 at the National level in terms of loan utilization and repayment. It also won the National Best Farmer award of the National Council of Agriculture – the highest agricultural policy organ in Nigeria in 1995.
