Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Lagos today sentenced a charcoal dealer, Taiyelolu Akeem, to three years’ imprisonment for obtaining N21m under false pretences from Solomon George.
In his judgement, Justice Oweibo did not give the convict an option of fine, though he had earlier pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on fraud.
The convict was said to have committed the crime in Lagos State between February and October, 2019 and was arraigned on September 3, 2019 by the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU).
According to the Prosecution Counsel, Daniel Apochi said that Akeem committed the crime with some other people, who are at large adding that Akeem, through his firm, Tkashy Multi Service fraudulently obtained the said money on the pretext of supplying him 20 containers of charcoal, which he failed to supply.
The offence, according to the prosecution counsel contravened Section 1(3)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and Section 15(2)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011, as amended in 2012.
