In a major operation against crude oil theft, the Special Intelligence Squad (SIS) of the State Command Defense Corps (SCDC) has intercepted and destroyed two large wooden fabricated boats carrying an estimated 200,000 liters of suspected stolen crude oil. The operation took place along the Owaza/Odagwa river boundaries in Nwogo Community, Abia State.
According to reports, the boats, each laden with about 100,000 liters of illegally siphoned crude oil, were being transported through the waterways under the cover of darkness. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the SIS swiftly moved to intercept the illicit cargo before it could be transported to unknown destinations.

Following standard security procedures, the intercepted boats were dismantled and set ablaze on-site to prevent further illegal activities. The operation underscores the government’s renewed commitment to tackling oil theft and protecting Nigeria’s economic assets from sabotage.
Security sources confirmed that no arrests have been made yet, but investigations are ongoing to identify the criminal syndicate behind the operation. The SCDC Commandant-General reiterated that oil thieves and their collaborators would face the full wrath of the law, emphasizing that security agencies remain on high alert to dismantle illegal oil operations across the country.
Local residents have hailed the interception as a major victory against oil theft, which has long plagued the region. Many hope that continued surveillance and enforcement will help curb the economic and environmental devastation caused by crude oil theft.
Authorities have urged communities to report any suspicious activities to security agencies to further strengthen the fight against illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region.
