The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim has condemned the Nigerian Postal Service for imposing new license fees on the courier and logistics companies, instructing that the new charges be put on hold with the immediate effect.
He emphatically pointed out that the review upward of the license charges were purely carried out by the authority of NIPOST without his knowledge adding, “The increase, is under investigation by my office, since yesterday. The Ministry and the Minister were not involved”.
Ordering NIPOST to stay action on the execution of the new charges, he said in his Twitter page, “Our attention has been drawn to an increase of licence fee, which was not part of the regulation I earlier APPROVED for you. Your Chair and PMG were YESTERDAY contacted to put the implementation on hold and send a report to our ministry by Monday”.
The Minister further appealed to the enraged Nigerians over the insensitivity of NIPOST saying, “Cool your mind, please. We will do our best to ensure you do not suffer under our supervision”.
Reacting to the action of the Minister, Nigerians have taken to social media, lauding the Minister for his prompt intervention.
Gimba Kakanda in his Twitter page said, “Thank you for this timely intervention, sir. You’ve just saved Nigeria from imploding, because instant communication on such matters is key. We can’t be battling unemployment, and be making policies that stall job creations”.
Also, one Adolphus Effiong said, “Thank you so much Sir, for the prompt response. Oga, our small Logistics Business is suffering at the the moment. With this new fees, if implemented, we will all go back to our village. Thank you once again”.
