Oyo State High Court today confirmed an abuse of power, executive lawlessness, and infringement of fundamental human rights of Nigerians as it awarded N20billion in aggravated damages to the Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho against the federal government and the Department of State Services (DSS) for the illegal invasion of his Ibadan residence on July 1, 2021.
The court, which explicitly declared the invasion, where 12 aides of Sunday Igboho were arrested and two killed illegal, described the action of the DSS as “arbitrary aggression and prejudices” against his agitation for a Yoruba nation.
The presiding judge, Justice Ladiran Akintola, awarded the sum as exemplary and aggravated damages against the DSS in the suit filed by Igboho in which he is sought for N500 billion in damages for the illegal and brutal invasion.
Counsel to the plaintiff, Yomi Aliu described the judgement as fair and historical in the history of Nigerian democracy.
