A 29-year old man, Samod Oguntayo, who claimed to be a businessman, was on Friday, June 26, 2020, sentenced to three months imprisonment for criminal impersonation by Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Oguntayo was prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The offence is contrary to Section 22(2) (b) (ii) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act, 2015, and punishable under Section 22 (2) of the same Act.
Justice Abubakar also ordered Oguntayo to restitute the sum of USD$650 to his victim, Cynthia Deison and forfeit his iPhone X to the Federal Government as proceeds of crime.
