Justice J. K.Dagat of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano, Kano State yesterday convicted and sentenced Saad Ahmed Madaki to ten years imprisonment over fraudulent activities.
The Convict was arraigned by the Kano Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on one- count charge of obtaining money under false pretense.
According to EFCC, troubles started for the convict when he was arrested by the Kano State Joint Task Force, on an allegation that he was connected to terrorism.
Sequel to this, he was handed over to the Department of State Security Service (DSS) but was later transferred to EFCC, after establishing that he had no link with terrorist. However, further investigations revealed that he defrauded and obtained N200million fraudulently from a retired Kano State Treasurer, Auwalu Abdulkadir.
Upon his arraignment on April 4, 2017, he pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him leading to the commencement of full trial.
To established that he was guilty of the charge preferred aginst him, the Prosecution Counsel, Douglas I. Gift, presented five witnesses and seven exhibits to the court.
Found him guilty as charged, Justice Dagat convicted and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and ordered him to pay N200million he fraudulently obtained from the petitioner as restitution to the lawful owner.
