An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye has ordered that a 50-year-old teacher, Olaofe Ayodele, who allegedly defiled his 15-year old student be remanded in police custody, pending legal advice.
In a similar case, Adegboye also ordered the remand of one 44-year-old man, Adeyanju Olaitan, who is standing trial on the allegation of raping a senior secondary school 3 student. The two cases, which the court did not take because it has to await the legal advice of the Director of Public Prosecution, (DPP) were adjoured until March 2, 2020.
The two offenders committed a crime that contravened Section 6(1) of the Ekiti State Gender Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, Ayodele, a teacher of All Soul Grammar School in Ado-Ekiti, committed the offence in Ado-Ekiti in December 2019.
In the case of Olaitan, a teacher at Osi community High School in Osi-Ekiti, he was alleged to have engaged one SSS 3 student to agree to marry him to the detriment of her academic and psychological wellbeing.
