The Federal Capital Territory High Court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu to death by hanging.
Delivering judgment on Monday, April 28, 2025, Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme found Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide following the death of his wife on April 8, 2022.
The court dismissed his no-case submission, ruling that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Nwachukwu, arraigned on June 3, 2022, faced a 23-count charge brought by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The charges included culpable homicide, spousal battery, cruelty to children, and criminal intimidation.
Throughout the trial, the prosecution, led by Mrs. Aderonke Imana, called 17 witnesses—including two of the couple’s children—and tendered 25 exhibits.
In his defence, Nwachukwu testified personally, presented four witnesses, and submitted four exhibits.
Despite a plea for leniency from his counsel, Reginald Nwali, Justice Nwosu-Iheme sentenced him to death by hanging on the first count.
He also received additional prison terms ranging from six months to three years on various other counts and was fined a total of N700,000.
Osinachi Nwachukwu died at the age of 42. She rose to fame in 2017 with her powerful feature on Prospa Ochimana’s gospel hit song, Ekwueme.
Following her death, allegations surfaced that she had been a victim of prolonged domestic violence at the hands of her husband.
