Plans are in top gear to commence airlifting Nigerians who are outside the country and are willing to return home as part of Nigerian Government’s efforts in the fight against coronavirus.
This was made known today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama at a Covid-19 briefing in response to questions about when exactly is the evacuation process going to commence:
The Minister said, “This is a situation that breaks all our hearts, but there were certain measures we had to put in place first. We don’t want Nigerians abroad coming in with more #COVID19 cases.
“We are trying to find quarantine centres approved by medical authorities. But most hotels do not want to be used for quarantine centres.
“We have located some hotels in Abuja and Lagos and made necessary arrangements, but the passengers will have to pay for the hotels. We have put a date for Monday, 4th of May, 2020 for the commencement of the evacuation process”, he said.
