With the stay at home order by the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country, some residents of lbadan are complying.
One of the areas visited is the Agbowo-Ojoo axis of the city, which also houses the University of Ibadan (UI). It is one of the commercial hubs of the ancient city.
The area which is always overcrowded was devoid of the hustle and bustle that it was known for.
Usually, Agbowo, particularly, UI area is noted for heavy traffic and at times, vehicles may be stucked for over an hour. Workers and residents of UI always find it tough accessing the institution because of hold up. It is always hectic for the police and traffic officers in managing traffic and crossing of the road by the people. However, today, the story is different as commuters and private car owners stayed off the streets.
Few commercial vehicles found on the road had the drivers begging few available commuters to board at cheap fare. Also, commercial motorcyclists were on their motor cycles, not finding customers.
In UI, the roads are free and the institition is like a ghost city.
Due to lack of commuters, tryclists were only allowed to carry two passengers so as to give chance to others to have passengers.
A tryclist shared his experience, “We only come out to see if we can make some money to buy food for ourselves and the family, We are running at a loss. There are no passengers so we agreed that at a time, no one can carry more than two passengers. Secondly, with two passengers, we have observed social distancing”.
