Following the non-compliance of the lockdown order by the Federal Government and Lagos State Government, the state government has closed down the popular Oke Odo food stuff Market.
The Market, which is situated at Ile-Epo, along Iyana Ipaja-Abule Egba axis, Lagos, is not expected to be opened until there is proof that the market operators and their customers have complied with the directive of the government.
According to information gathered, the Chairman of Agbado/ Oke-Odo Local Council Development Authority (LCDA), Dr Augustine Adeoye closed the market around 12noon on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
A notice placed at the entrance of the market reads, “Oke Odo Market closed down on Wednesday 15th April, 2020 by 12am till further notice. Nobody will be allowed unto the market except security personnel and market leaders for security purpose. Anybody who violates this order will be dealt with. Order from the Lagos State Government through Agbado Oke Odo LCDA Chairman”.
According to a statement issued and signed by Edafe Oghenebrume, the Chief Press Secretary to the council’s Chairman, the market was shut as a result of congestion noticed in the market which would aid the spread of coronavirus.
The statement stated that in a meeting the council chairman had with the market leaders, the chairman pointed out that the closure has become necessary to curb rowdiness and ensure complete fumigation in compliance with the state government directives on precautionary measure to combat the spread of Covid-19.
