Community leaders have commended the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogunguniso 1, for donating foodstuff and sanitizers to the less privileged to encourage them to stay at home and stay safe as coronavirus is ravaging the world.
Making this commendation today on behalf of some community leaders, the Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Wasiu Aderoju, said that Olubadan is contributing his own quota to the fight against coronavirus through identifying with the needy at this time that the world is going through a trying time.
Among those who benefited from the good gesture of the paramount rulers are the households of Popoyemoja, Alaadorin, Akuro, Ita Aregbe-omo and Gbodu, who were given safety equipment and food stuffs such as hand sanitizers, gloves, beans and rice.
Aderoju stated that the kind gesture displayed by the monarch was the tonic needed for the indigent people to comply with the government’s Stay-at-Home Order without fear of hunger and starvation adding that it was a practical demonstration of the traditional institution’s commitment to fight the pandemic to a standstill.
In his comment, Oba Adetunji cautioned the state’s residents not to take chances with their health by complying with government instructions and other precautionary measures which include stay-at-home order, social distancing, regular hand washing, avoiding overcrowding and handshakes and self-isolation.
He further warned people not to panic as the government and well-weaning Nigerians are doing their best to stop the spread of the dreaded disease.
According to him, “Even in the Olubadan palace, we have suspended palace activities over the past one and half weeks. Courtesy visits have been cancelled. Land cases have been postponed. Chieftaincy promotion exercise that ought to take place in a stretch of three weeks have been put on hold and the Olubadan-in-Council members and affected chiefs have been duly informed about it as far back as two weeks ago. We wish we could do more, as health is wealth.”
