Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has cancelled curfew imposed on the state about few months ago to manage the spread of Coronavirus.
Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Taiwo Adisa who revealed this in a statement said that the COVID-19 Task Force, headed by Governor Makinde has announced the cancellation of the 10pm. curfew imposed on the state in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The statement emphasised, ”The curfew has been abolished after series of reviews”.
The Governor explained that the abolition of the curfew was premised on the need to reduce the burden on business owners in the state, whom it is stated, has been affected by the curfew, especially, since the Covid-19 situation has begun to improve in the state.
The state government has also approved the conversion of the Aawe Isolation Centre to a level 3 primary health care centre, directing that the facility should be decontaminated and handed over to the hospital management board.
Also, the state has approved the conversion of other isolation centres, except the Infectious disease Centre, Olodo, to level 3 primary care centre.
Makinde, further stated that whenever a spike in Covid-19 case is noticed in the location where any of the facilities is situated, such a facility would be reconverted as an isolation centre or a part of it would be utilised as an isolation centre.
He directed Oyo State Management Board to identify a primary health care centre around Olodo axis of Ibadan, which would be upgraded to take care of residents in that axis, as there is no designated government hospital facility around the Iwo road-Olodo axis.
The taskforce, however warned night clubs operators to desist from accommodating persons in closed areas, within their premises, adding that investigations have confirmed that the virus spread faster when people cluster in closed venues.
Also speaking, former Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital (UCH), Professor Temitope Alonge revealed that a total of 15,700 Covid-19 tests have been conducted in the state, with 3,118 confirmed cases and 37 fatalities.
The statement further revealed that, so far, the state has received donations in cash and agricultural goods and health equipment to the tune of N1, 237 billion since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the state.
