Like their counterparts in some parts of Lagos and Ogun state, residents in several areas of Ibadan, Oyo State could not sleep yesterday night till the early hours of today, April 13, 2020 due to invasion of armed robbers.
Areas affected include Sango-Eleyele axis, Alaro, Gbaremu, Ijokodo, Mokola, Isopako, Amisu Street, Rufai Street, Baba Sala Area and environs of Oke Itunu, Agbowo, UI second gate area, NNPC Apata, Felele Rab and Oremeji Agugu.
Sporadic gun shots were heard in these areas and people had to come out and turn to vigilantes, burning tires and wielding sticks and cutlasses.
Residents were sending frantic messages on Facebook and on Twitter to the relevant Police Twitter handles seeking for their intervention.
One of the residents of Eleyele that spoke with our correspondent said that a major reason for this robbery incidence is that Nigerians are hungry, adding that people keep hearing of millions and billions being donated to the government and nothing is getting to them. Now that they are told to stay at home because of coronavirus, what are they expected to eat?
Another resident of Coca cola said: “They did not get to our house but we could not sleep. We were just praying and praying. Hoping it will be daylight and all of these will be over”.
Residents of other areas like Akobo and environ also could not sleep as gunshots were resonating all over the city. One of the residents said: “Honestly, the state government has to rise up to this security challenges before it get out of hand”.
