Oyo State Police Command has warned parents and guardians to desist from handing over their underage wards to unknown commercial motorcyclists to take them to school or any other place, saying that the motorcyclists may be abductors in disguise.
Stating this in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Fadeyi Olugbenga, Shina Olukolu, the state commissioner of police noted that there had been incidences of commercial motorcyclists kidnapping children entrusted to their care.
He noted that it was wrong to entrust children to the motorcyclists that little or none is known about saying, “This practice is open to abuse by the mischievous and criminally minded motorcycle operators in our community. For instance, a commercial motorcycle rider, under the pretext of avoiding the taskforce took two youngsters far beyond the destination of the gate of their school which was the pre-arranged destination. The distress call of the youngsters attracted the by-standers and the police team, who came to their rescue. The hoodlum was arrested and is currently being interrogated”.
He added, “It must be noted that in view of the security challenges, the criminally minded individuals in our community are obviously deploying all kinds of strategies, tactics and means to carry out their nefarious activities”.
