The Edinburgh Earth Initiative of the University of Edinburgh (UoE), United Kingdom, has generously provided vital support to six innovative students from the University of Ibadan (UI). These students have been recognized for their significant contributions to developing adaptation-related products and services, which are crucial in today’s rapidly changing environmental landscape.
This support reflects a growing awareness that the upcoming decade will be critical for businesses of all sizes – small, medium, and large. These enterprises must enhance their resilience against a backdrop of rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and shifting ecosystems. Additionally, it will be important for these companies to effectively manage how these environmental changes impact their customers and their operational strategies.
In light of these developments, Professor Oluyemisi Bamgbose, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at UI, spearheaded a delegation of experts to visit UoE. This visit aimed to engage with key stakeholders and broaden the scope of collaboration between the two universities.
The visit also marked a significant milestone with the signing of a University-wide Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which is set to foster deeper bilateral cooperation in various academic and research endeavors.
Furthermore, the delegation facilitated by UoE included distinguished experts such as Professor Abiodun Oluwadare from the Department of Forestry, Professor Funmilola Ajani from the Department of Wildlife and Ecotourism Management, and Dr. Mobolaji Omobowale from the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering. Their participation underscores the diverse expertise that UI brings to the table, enriching this cross-university collaboration and setting the stage for innovative solutions to global environmental challenges.
